OUR PRINCIPAL Nigel HarrisNigel Harris is the Founder and President of Juniper Green Investments. Prior to Juniper Green, Nigel founded, presided over, and sold two high profile Ottawa based technology organizations. In 1976 he founded Harris Computer Systems, a software developer and a total solution provider to the Utilities marketplace. Headquartered in Ottawa, the company has installations across North America and in almost 20 countries worldwide. During the 20 years that the company operated under Nigel's control, it spawned five smaller companies and made one acquisition, a developer of municipal information systems. Nigel sold Harris Computer Systems in 1996. In 1988 he founded Learnix. Learnix was founded to address the training needs of those companies and government departments who, in the late 80's and early 90's were moving from proprietary operating software to open systems technologies, specifically UNIX. Today, 12 years after its founding, Learnix is a highly respected provider of IT training to the corporate marketplace. As President, Nigel Harris established a niche for the company by establishing high profile vendor relationships. Today, Learnix is a solid alliance partner of such industry leaders as Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard and Oracle Corporation. The partnership with Sun is an exclusive one, those with Oracle and HP are semi-exclusive. Learnix has training centres in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. In addition, in 1992, it acquired the assets of Lurnix Inc, a California UNIX training organization and successfully integrated its operation into Learnix as its California subsidiary. It now operates centres in Sacramento, Portland and Seattle. Nigel's prime strengths are his abilities to develop a team of specialists and weave them into a solid group with well delegated responsibilities and nurtured with a very strong vision. Under his leadership in both Harris and Learnix, Nigel developed star teams rather than teams of stars. He received his education in the U.K. Outside of business, he is a past president of the Rideau Tennis and Squash Club, and his cycling odyssey from Hanoi to Saigon was published in Southam Press.
